I am first and foremost a storyteller. My journey to this vocation and passion is paved by the support of educators around the United States.
In the aftermath of the tragedy of 9/11, while targeted countless times as the ‘Other’, an ‘Outsider’, I discovered the art of cartooning to tell the story of Sikhs in turbans and beards. I call these cartoons, Sikhtoons. Cartooning led to performance art donning the uniform of Captain America.
Since the first outing as Captain America in 2013, teachers across the nation have been inviting me into their classroom to share my story with students.
After visiting over a 100 schools, I have honed my storytelling skills to create a space for conversations around identity, prejudice, vulnerability, tapping into our superhero potential.
